What is the Cardiovascular Health Protection Initiative™

The Cardiovascular Health Protection Initiative™ is a CME program that focuses on primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention strategies. This initiative expands the scope of physicians' interventions from treatmen to early identification of high-risk individuals and protection of their health. The initiative was developed to respond to: 1) the aging of the population; 2) the economic ramifications of inaction versus preventing and treating CVD; and 3) the change in patient attitude for passive recipient of care to active consumer of health information and services. Advances medical technologies, such as imaging and genetic testing, make early detection of risk scientifically feasible and are becoming more accessible to the general population each year.

The Cardiovascular Health Protection Initiative™ would include case-based education on early risk factor assessment, noninvasive screening, primary prevention strategies for patients at high risk for CVD, and secondary prevention strategies to slow the progression of disease and prevent vascular event in patients established CVD.
